White fillings, made of either composite resin or porcelain, are the modern alternatives to amalgam (silver fillings). Developments in the properties of these materials have made this treatment reliable and long lasting, surpassing their amalgam predecessors. Unlike white fillings, amalgam fillings are vulnerable to shift and distort in temperature changes, which can result in tooth cracking or fracture. Moreover, white fillings represent a more aesthetically natural restoration as they can be technically coloured to suit your existing tooth colour.
